DOWN SYNDROME DAY – 21 March 2025

Everyone needs support sometimes. People with Down syndrome need support to live and be included in the community, like everyone else.

Families also need support, as they are often supporting their family member with Down syndrome.

Support is a key human right that helps make other rights possible.

The support that we need is different for each person. We have the right to support that meets our needs and gives us choice, control and dignity.

What needs to improve?
Many people with Down syndrome around the world don’t get the support they need.

Many countries do not have support systems that meet the needs of people with disabilities and their families.

Or the support systems they have do not respect the human rights of people with disabilities. Governments must make sure there is a support system, so people with disabilities are included in the community.

HUMAN RIGHTS DAY – 21 March 2025

On this day, South Africa reflects on the sacrifices made in the fight for equality and dignity. Commemorating the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre, Human Rights Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to uphold freedom, justice, and human rights for all.

WORLD TB DAY – 24 March 2025

Each year we commemorate World TB Day on March 24 to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic impact of tuberculosis (TB) and urge acceleration of efforts to end the global TB epidemic.

Despite significant progress over the last decades, TB continues to be the top infectious killer worldwide, claiming over 1,5 million per year. Drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) poses a major health threat and could put at risk gains made in efforts to end TB.

The national theme for the commemoration of World TB Day 2024 is ‘Yes! You and I Can End TB’. In line with the global community, the theme from 2023 has been retained for this year’s commemoration. The theme aims to encourage individual action to contribute to the national effort against TB. It also emphasizes the importance of being accountable as an individual and as part of a collective.

“You and I” is a statement of intent designed to encourage individuals to take charge of their health in line with “Cheka Impilo” objectives, as well as the country’s endeavor towards ending the missing TB clients.
