The new year is officially upon us. That means many of us are setting and working toward our new year’s goals to recharge ourselves! We know that staying active is one of the best ways to keep our bodies healthy. But did you know it can also improve your overall wellbeing and quality of life?

Here are just a few of the ways physical activity can help you feel better, look better and live better:

  •  It’s a natural mood lifter/mental health enhancer
  •  It keeps you physically fit and able
  •  It gives you quality sleep
  •  It helps keep the doctor away

Here are some examples of getting physical:

  • Walking: you can introduce walking meetings with your team
  • Dancing to your favourite music at home or with your team
  • Jogging/running – your pace doesn’t matter
  • Gardening activities
  • Hiking
  • Climbing stairs
  • Hide and seek with the kids
  • A few squats/lunges while waiting for your laundry machine to finish

Sometimes there’s a bit more creativity involved. Often this means finding ways to simplify activity or make it more accessible. So, find activities that will be suitable for you.

No matter how we choose to be active, every effort to move counts toward achieving recommended physical activity goals and will have positive impacts on both the mind and the body.
