By adopting these habits, you can prevent most heart conditions.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. If you\u2019re smoking, stop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Smoking is probably the worst thing you could do to your heart \u2013 it\u2019ll raise your risk for cardiovascular disease almost instantly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0 Eat the rainbow<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Instead of filling up with processed, oily, salty or sugary foods, refuel with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, dairy, nuts and seeds, and healthy fats such as avocado, olive oil and fatty fish. These are what your heart loves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0 Limit your alcohol intake<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The less alcohol you drink, the lower your risk of harm. Water is still your safest option, or opt for tea, coffee, or a small glass of fruit or vegetable juice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0 Stay away from soft drinks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Most soft drinks contain copious amounts of sugar. Not only isn\u2019t sugar good for weight management, but you\u2019ll be wasting calories on a substance that has no value to your health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0 Get your body moving<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise a week is the minimum your heart needs to stay healthy. Try swim- ming, running, walking or biking (or anything else that gets your heart rate up a little).<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.\u00a0 Remember your checkups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Heart disease is largely preventable if caught early, and usually treatable, too.
